Manitoba’s police watchdog agency the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking into allegations of excessive force used by Winnipeg Police (WPS) officers during the arrest of a 12-year-old boy.
The IIU say that the incident happened on August 7, 2017, but did not come to light until September 27, 2017, at which time the WPS contacted the IIU.

The IIU civilian director, Zane Tessler, has determined that it would be in the public interest to investigate the incident even though no seriuos injury was involved.
The IIU mandate is to investigate all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, whether occurring on or off duty.
