If you were staying at Winnipeg’s Viscount Gort hotel you would have had a rude awakening as carbon monoxide levels forced guests outside in the frigid early morning temperatures Monday.
Just after midnight firefighters were called to the hotel at Portage Avenue and Route 90.
Issues with the heating system caused a buildup of carbon monoxide.
Guests were loaded into Winnipeg Transit buses as emergency crews ventilated the hotel.
No one was injured during the incident.
Last week the Office of the Fire Commissioner reported the death of a man from carbon monoxide and 20 others falling ill after a chimney vent collapsed causing carbon monoxide to buildup to dangerous levels in a St. Boniface business.
