Ethics Commissioner Clears Premier Wab Kinew of Conflict of Interest Allegations

In a report filed today with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Ethics Commissioner Jeffrey Schnoor, K.C., has determined that Premier Wab Kinew has not contravened The Conflict of Interest (Members and Ministers) Act.

The investigation and subsequent report were the result of a request for an inquiry filed by Mark Wasyliw, MLA for Fort Garry, on December 3, 2024. Mr. Wasyliw had alleged that the recent publication of a book written by Premier Kinew breached conditions imposed by the Ethics Commissioner, potentially placing him in a conflict of interest.

After thorough examination, Commissioner Schnoor concluded that the book was submitted by Premier Kinew prior to his tenure as Premier and that all conditions imposed by the Ethics Commissioner had been duly respected. The Commissioner found no evidence of any conflict of interest.

This ruling marks the closure of the inquiry initiated by MLA Wasyliw and reaffirms Premier Kinew’s compliance with the set conditions.
