RCMP has confirmed that the third inmate wanted after escaping The Pas Correctional Centre on Monday evening, May 8, 2023, has been captured.

Kelly Castel was located earlier today near Halcrow Avenue in The Pas . He tried to flee from officers but was located by a police service dog. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Castel was one of three inmates who escaped. The first escapee was taken into custody shortly after fleeing the correctional centre. The second inmate, Xander Tardiff, was captured by police on Tuesday, May 9.

RCMP deployed specialized units and resources once they learned of the escapes including the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team, Crime Reduction Enforcement Team, Police Dog Services, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Unit (Drone), and Air Services.

RCMP in Saskatchewan along the Manitoba border increased their presence in Cumberland and surrounding areas during he search.
