The overpass crossing Portage Avenue at Empress Street has been closed ahead of schedule due to the condition of the southbound lanes.
The city says that the overpass was originally slated to close on April 29, 2019, for structural repairs but an engineer who recently inspected the bridge recommended closing the southbound lanes as soon as possible. The city decided that out of an abundance of caution that it would shut down the southbound lanes between Westway and St. John Ambulance Way immediately.
The northbound lanes will be remaining open during construction and are safe to use.
Work on the overpass is expected to take until November 29, 2019.
