Emerson MLA gets the boot from Tory caucus

Emerson MLA Cliff Graydon was kicked out of the Tory caucus on Monday, October 22, 2018, after allegedly inviting a female staff member to sit on his lap during a recent meeting.

In a statement last week the backbencher admitted to making an inappropriate comment to a staff member but said he had apologized and she had accepted his apology.

He went on to say that he would not be seeking re-election in 2020 but would remain an MLA for the duration of his mandate. Graydon then said he would be going on immediate medical leave but did not disclose why.

Graydon will now sit as an independent in the house along with Stephen Fletcher who was kicked out of Tory caucus in June of 2017 and Mohinder Saran who was kicked out of NDP caucus in January 2017.

“While we do not take this decision lightly, it has become apparent that previous attempts with Mr Graydon to address a pattern of inappropriate behaviour have not succeeded,” said PC Caucus Chair Wayne Ewasko in a written statement.
