Winnipeg Police and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a report of a person who had climbed up a construction crane near Waterfront Drive and James Avenue around 6;20 pm on Thursday, July 22, 2021.
Police and firefighters used a ladder truck to get close to the individual while members of the WFPS Technical Rescue Task Force climbed the crane to rescue the man.
After talking to the climber the firefighters on the crane were able to approach the individual and secure a harness to them. They were then safely lowered to the ground about an hour and a half after the incident started.
Once on the ground the climber was assessed by paramedics. They were taken to hospital in unstable condition but have since been upgraded to stable.
