A 911 call on March 14, 2025, took an unexpected turn for Manitoba First Nations Police (MFNP) officers, resulting in a friendly game of cards.
According to MFNP, officers received a report of a 911 call from an elderly resident of Opaskwayak Cree Nation, requesting police presence at their home. The caller provided no further information, simply asking officers to come over for a card game.
Concerned for the caller’s well-being, officers responded to the residence to conduct a safety check. Upon arrival, they determined that there was no actual emergency.
However, the elderly resident’s request for a card game was honored. Before resuming their community patrols, the officers joined the resident for a friendly round of cards, turning a potential misunderstanding into a positive interaction.
Police remind callers that 911 is for emergency calls for help. Non-urgent calls should be made during business hours to the non-emergency numbers.
