RCMP have arrested eight people during an early morning drug raids in Portage la Prairie on Friday February 26, 2021.
Officers from a number of different units including K-9 teams from Brandon and Portage la Prairie executed three Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants at three different Portage la Prairie residences.
Officers seized a number of items during the raids including firearms, ammunition, cash, cannabis, meth, fentanyl, prescription drugs and a vehicle.
In total more than one kilogram of methamphetamine was seized in the raids.
50-year-old Jeremy Whincup and 31-year-old Kayla Whitford were arrested and charged for their involvement with four counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, hydromorphone), Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5000, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Device, Store Firearm Improperly and Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
Whincup also was charged with three counts of possess Firearm while Prohibited. Whitford was also charged with two counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order.
Six others ( Male 24, Male 26, Female 27, Female 35, Male 37 and Female 16) were arrested and charged. All six were released to appear in court at a later date.
RCMP continue to investigate.
