Eight new cases of COVID-19 in Winnipeg, 17 new overall

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 17 new cases of the virus on Saturday, September 12, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,410.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 1.4 per cent

Two new cases in the Southern Health region, two new cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region’ five cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health region and eight cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

There are 13 people being treated in hospital including four people in intensive care.

There are currently 238 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 160 of those in Winnipeg. 1,156 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 16.

1,424 laboratory tests were completed on Thursday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 153,231.

Officials are advising that there was a possible exposure at another Manitoba school. Between 8:45 am and 1:30 pm on Friday, September 11, 2020, an individual who was asymptomatic was at Ecole New Era School at 527 Louise Avenue in Brandon.

Public health says that the individual did not acquire the virus at the school. School officials and members of the cohort are being notified. The school will be cleaning high-touch areas out of an abundance of caution.

There are a number of other possible exposure sites including:

  • Winnipeg Transit routes 11 and 14 on Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2. from approximately 8 am to 8:20 am and from 7:30 pm to 7:50 pm on each day;
  • Ibex Restaurant at 626 Sargent Ave. in Winnipeg Sept. 5 between 10 pm and 3 am and Sept. 6 between 6 pm and 3 am;
  • Smitty’s Restaurant at 1017 St. James St. in Winnipeg, Sept. 6 between 10 am and 11 am.

Two previously announced cases are a health-care worker handout-patient at Carberry Health Centre. Several of the staff have been identified as close contacts and have been ordered to self-isolate and self-monitor for symptoms. On Friday, September 11 the acute and emergency care areas of the centre were closed due to staffing issues. The closure is expected to last until September 24th

Patient have been transferred to other facilities within the region. The Carberry Health Care Centre in now listed in the Pandemic Response System as critical (RED)
