Eduardo Balaquit’s killer arrested in Saskatoon

Winnipeg Police say that the suspect responsible for the death of 59-year-old Eduardo Balaquit in June of 2018, has been arrested in Saskatoon.

Police began investigating Balaquit’s disappearance from a Keewatin Street business on June 5, 2018. Investigators quickly concluded that he was a victim of a crime. When his vehicle was found the passenger window had been smashed but his personal belongings were still inside.

Early in the investigation officers expanded their search to an area around Arborg, Manitoba. Arborg is about 119 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

Over the following years several pleas were made for any information related to the case.

On March 23, 2021, homicide detectives from Winnipeg travelled to Saskatoon and with the help of Saskatoon Police Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged 35-year-old Kyle Alexander James Pietz.

Pietz worked at the same business as Balaquit at the time of his death and had become a person of interest early in the investigation say police. He has been charged for his alleged involvement with Manslaughter.

Police have yet to find Ballaquit’s remains and are asking anyone with information that can help investigators to call (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-8477.
