In the early hours of Tuesday, December 31, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded swiftly to reports of a fire in a house located in the 500 block of Aberdeen Avenue. The call was received at 5:03 a.m., and upon arrival, the fire crews were met with heavy flames and dense smoke emanating from the building.
Firefighters commenced an aggressive attack on the blaze, working diligently to bring the situation under control. By 6:01 a.m., the fire was successfully contained.
Fortunately, all occupants of the house had already evacuated safely before the arrival of emergency crews. However, one firefighter sustained a minor injury during the operation.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was on the scene to offer temporary support to the displaced residents. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
As of now, damage estimates are not available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Residents in the vicinity have been advised to exercise caution, as the water used to extinguish the fire has frozen, resulting in slippery conditions. The City of Winnipeg crews are actively monitoring the area and applying sand and de-icing agents to improve traction on roadways and sidewalks.
