Early morning fires under investigation

Elgin Avenue Fire

Winnipeg Police reported a fire in a home in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue at 1:00 am Tuesday, August 18, 2020.

When firefighters arrived heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the structure. The building was not structurally sound due to a previous fire on July 11, 2020.

Crews launched a defensive attack and spent the next 90 minutes fighting the blaze before it was declared under control.

Emergency crews evacuated a neighbouring home as a precaution. One home suffered damage to its siding from the heat of the fire.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Aberdeen Avenue Fire

Around 1:13 am a fire unit returning from another call spotted a fire on Aberdeen Avenue in a garage that was fully-involved.

Additional units were called in and the fire was quickly brought under control.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
