Minutes before 4:00 am on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, firefighters responded to the reports of a fire in a vacant two-and-a-half-storey home on Maryland Street.
When emergency crews arrived on scene they found the building well-involved with flames and heavy smoke coming out of the roof and windows.
A defensive attack was initiated due to the dangerous conditions within the structure.
Firefighters battled the blaze for two and a half hours before it was declared under control around 6:30 am.
Two homes near the fire were evacuated as a precaution and residents were able to keep warm in a transit bus that was brought in to give them shelter during the ordeal.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
