Early Morning Fire Displaces Hotel Residents in Downtown Winnipeg

A fire broke out early this morning at a hotel in the 600 block of Main Street, displacing residents.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the incident at approximately 7:38 a.m. on Sunday, December 29th. Fire crews quickly brought the blaze under control within about 30 minutes.

A thorough search of the building was conducted to ensure all residents were safely evacuated. A Winnipeg Transit bus was dispatched to the scene to provide temporary shelter for those displaced, and the City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was also on hand to offer support.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The hotel sustained damage from water, smoke, and fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Residents are advised to exercise caution in the area, as water used to extinguish the fire has frozen, creating slippery conditions. City crews are working to improve traction by applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks.
