A swift response by the Winnipeg Police Service early this morning resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of drugs and break-in paraphernalia following a residential break-in on Victor Street.
At approximately 3:00 a.m., police were called to the 600 block of Victor Street for a report of a break-in in progress. Central District General Patrol officers arriving at the scene observed two individuals exiting the residence carrying a dishwasher.
A foot pursuit ensued as the suspects fled. Officers immediately requested assistance from the Air1 police helicopter, which quickly gained visual containment of one of the suspects. Air1 tracked the individual to a residence in the 600 block of Toronto Street.
By approximately 3:10 a.m., officers on the ground successfully apprehended one adult male suspect. A subsequent search led to the seizure of several items related to the break-in, including break-in instruments, a pocket knife, and a .22 caliber round of ammunition.
Further investigation revealed the suspect was also in possession of a quantity of illicit drugs. Police seized approximately 25 pills believed to be fentanyl, with an estimated street value of $750, and approximately .25 grams of suspected methamphetamine, estimated to be worth $125.
A 23-year-old male from Winnipeg is now facing a string of charges, including: Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Break Enter & Theft – Dwelling House, Resist Peace Officer, Possession of Break-In Instruments, Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine, Possession of Scheduled Substance – Fentanyl, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
The accused has been detained in custody.
