An early morning break-in at a dealership in the 3900 block of Portage Avenue led to a dramatic police chase and the subsequent arrest of a Saskatchewan man.
The incident began around 4:30 a.m. on January 5, when security observed an individual exit a Ford F350 truck, break into a construction trailer on-site, and leave. The truck, with a Saskatchewan license plate, was reported to the police.
General Patrol officers from the West District quickly located the truck in a parking lot west on Portage Avenue, near the perimeter. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled, ramming a police vehicle in the process. The suspect continued to flee, driving into oncoming traffic and colliding with a second police vehicle before finally being apprehended. Fortunately, no one was injured during the collisions.
The suspect, a 25-year-old male from Lampman, Saskatchewan, was taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including:
- Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon (3 counts)
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Possession of Break-In Instruments
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 (the vehicle was confirmed stolen from Moosejaw, SK on December 31, 2024)
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Break & Enter with Intent – Place
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
