Traffic stop leads to drug bust

On Monday, February 19, 2018, a 20-year-old male was arrested after he tried to evade police.

Members of the East District Community Support unit tried to stop a vehicle near Watt Street and Sydney Avenue for a traffic violation.

The driver of the vehicle refused to stop but eventually was stopped at Chalmers Avenue and Watt Street.

Police arrested the driver and searched the vehicle. A number of items were seized including cell phones, Crack Cocaine, a small amount of cash and a mini safe.

Police were able to get a search warrant to open the safe and inside they found 120 1/4 gram rocks of crack cocaine.

Justin Peter Karpluk from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice

He was detained in custody.
