Bike theft report leads cops to drug bust

On Tuesday April 2, 2019, Winnipeg Police responded to the report of a male trying to steal a bicycle outside a Burrows Avenue home.

When officers arrived they found a mini-van parked in the back of the home with two people inside along with a mountain bike and a reciprocating saw. Both adults were taken into custody.

A third suspect was taken into custody between the houses. When officers searched the man they found a significant amount of Meth (street value $10,000) along with a scale and a switch-blade knife. Inside the vehicle officers seized five cell phones.

Michael John Demaris 27 was charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Possess Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Recognizance x 3
  • Possess Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
  • Possess Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possess Proceeds of Crime

A 27-year-old female Jolene Kristen Pottinger was charged with Fail to comply with Recognizance. she was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.

Both were detained in custody.
