Drug and weapons charges laid after two suspects try evade police

Winnipeg Police arrested a male and a female in connection to drug and weapons offences on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2021.

Members of the Guns and Gangs Unit were executing a search warrant at a hotel in the Sargent Park area of the city when they watched two suspects pull up in a taxi. The cab left as soon as the suspects spotted police.

Officers followed the vehicle to the area of Sargent Avenue and Strathcona Street where the attempted a traffic stop. Police say that as the taxi was pulling over the male suspect began throwing items out of the window. As soon as the cab stopped the male took off on foot. A female suspect was still in the vehicle and placed under arrest.

With the help of Air-1 officers pursued the male and found him trying to hide under a truck nearby.

Police recovered the items thrown from the taxi which included 75 grams of Fentanyl worth about $15,000 on the street and 8 grams go Meth worth about $800. A search of the female also uncovered 1.5 grams of Meth.

Inside the cab officers found a sawed-off .22 calibre bolt action rifle, ammunition, a can of bear spray, a cellular phone, $3,600 in cash, a money counter and a scale.

33-year-old Adam Channing Douglas Carr has been charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl, Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized and four counts of Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

Carr was detained in custody.

The 23-year-old female suspect was charged for her alleged involvement withPossession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl, Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

The female suspect was released on a promise to appear.
