Drug and firearm offences laid after suspects flee from a traffic stop

A male and a female are facing multiple charges after police stopped them on the Queen Elizabeth Bridge shortly after midnight on October 4, 2021.

Police say that while officers were attempting to arrest the driver for providing a false identity she put the vehicle in gear and sped off. Police pursued and caught up to the vehicle as both occupants abandoned the vehicle near Main Street at Market Avenue.

With help from a K-9 unit both occupants of the vehicle were found in the Exchange District and taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, 2 grams of Fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and $1,840.

Brittany Amber Gottschalk and Devon Murray Ducharme, both 36 from Winnipeg were charged with multiple drug and firearm offences for their alleged involvement.

Gottschalk was also charged with vehicle flight and false identity offences.

Both accused were detained in custody.
