Driver threatens officers with an axe after rollover

RCMP in Cross Lake have a 35-year-old male in custody after two First Nation Safety Officers and police were threatened with an axe.

Police say that just after noon on Sunday October 4, 2020 they received a report of a vehicle rollover in the community. While enroute to the incident officers learned that the driver of the vehicle was enraged and threatening the safety officers.

As police arrived on scene that located the suspect walking on the road away from the vehicle wile still carrying the axe. When ordered to drop the weapon he refused and made threats to the officers.

Police fired a taser at the man and brought him safely into custody.

The suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with three counts of Assault on Peace officer with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Police are continuing to investigate the vehicle rollover and additional charges for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle following the investigation.
