Driver tells police they were speeding to ‘dry off’ freshly washed truck

RCMP took to social media on Thursday, February 13, 2020, with a humorous post to shed light on a serious issue.

Police stopped a pickup truck on Highway 331 for travelling 72 kilometres over the posted speed limit.

In the social media post the RCMP asks ” Does water dry faster in -24c at 162 km/h?”

The 18-year-old driver told officers that the Ford F-150 had just been washed and they were driving at 162 kilometres an hour in a 90 kilometre zone to “dry it off”.

The officers didn’t buy the story and slapped the driver with a $992 fine. The driver will also be subject to a license review by Manitoba Public Insurance.

Although the RCMP took a light approach to tell the story of the traffic stop they take it very seriously and say there are no excuses to justify that kind of speed.
