As News 4 was first to tell you on Sunday, July 24, 2022, Winnipeg Police Service began an investigation into a hit and run that sent a 24-year-old male to hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses said that the victim was crossing Pembina Highway when a vehicle ran the red traffic light, hit the victim and then fled the scene. The impact of the collision sent the victim flying about 60 ft where he landed hard on the pavement.
The suspect vehicle was found within 15 minutes after the collision on Farwell Bay but the driver had fled. Police say the vehicle suffered extensive damage.
Police arrested the 22-year-old male suspect around 8:00 pm on Sunday night. He is facing a number of charges for his alleged involvement including Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Knowing That or Reckless as to Whether They Were Involved in an Accident Causing Bodily Harm, Drive Carelessly and Disobey Traffic Control Device.
The accused was released on an undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.
