Driver of RV charged after hitting hydro pole causing power outage

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 48-year-old male after he hit a hydro pole while driving a motorhome early Friday morning, August 31, 2018.

Police say that James Bradley Porth hit the hydro pole near Talbot Avenue and Gateway Road just after 12:30 am then took off on foot. The force of the collision sheared the hydro pole and caused a power outage in the area.

Officers called in the K-9 Unit who tracked Porth to the rear of a home in the 500 block of Castle Avenue. He was found hiding inside a parked car and was taken into custody

Police also talked to two adult females who were with a 2-year-old child in the area of the collision. Officers believe that the women and child were also in the RV when the collision occurred.

According to the charges that were laid police believe that the driver was impaired at the time of impact with the hydro pole.

Porth is facing charges for his alleged involvement  of Driving While Ability Impaired, Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample – Breath, Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice

He has been detained in custody.
