Driver facing weapon and impaired charges in multi-vehicle collision

RCMP say that a 31-year-old female from Easterville, Manitoba, is facing charges for driving while impaired and brandishing a weapon after a multi-vehicle collision on the north Perimeter Highway (101) and Highway 6 on Wednesday morning, September 22, 2021.

Police say that the female driver was heading west on the Perimeter Highway when she attempted to turn onto Highway 6. She did not make the turn and entered the ditch then returned to the highway and collided with three other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection.

The driver reportedly brandished a knife when witnesses tried to provide assistance to her.

RCMP say the driver was treated at the scene by paramedics and released. She was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the detachment where she refused to provide a breath sample.

Two other drivers from Winnipeg, a 43-year-old female and a 48-year-old male suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police have charged her for her alleged involvement with Refusal to Comply with a Demand in an Accident Resulting in Bodily Harm and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.

The accused will answer to the charges on December 1, 2021. She was released from custody.
