A 36-year-old male from the RM of Brokenhead is facing multiple charges after he failed to stop at the scene of an accident he was allegedly involved in.
Police say that approximately 9:20 pm on Sunday March 8, 2020, they responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 59 south of Libau
A pickup was eastbound on Road 32E when it entered the intersection with Highway 59 and hit a southbound SUV.
The 74-year-old male driver of the SUV from the RM of Alexander was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
Police say the driver of the pickup stopped briefly to check on the condition of the SUV’s driver then left on foot.
Police searched the area for the driver of the pickup and eventually located him near his home sitting in a vehicle’s passenger seat.
He was taken into custody without incident.
Police have not named the suspect but say he has been charged criminally for his alleged involvement with Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Accident, Impaired Operation of a Conveyance (by Alcohol) and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance (by Alcohol) with a Blood Alcohol Concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 mg%.
The man was also issued several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act, say police.
RCMP continue to investigate.
The driver of the SUV remains in hospital.
