Winnipeg police have charged the alleged driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run that took the life of an 82-year-old man on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
Police now say that the victim George Birch was trying to stop a break-in at a business near Logan Avenue and Tecumseh Street when he was struck and killed by the vehicle. The driver then fled the area.
22-year-old Matthew Jacob Hildebrand was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement with Manslaughter, Break Enter & Theft and Failure to Stop after Accident Resulting in Death.
Hildebrand was detained in custody.
