Driver charged in the collision that killed two and injured 15 near Fannystelle

RCMP say that 56-year-old James Randell from Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, has been charged in connection to the death of a 7-year-old girl and a 63-year-old male on July 2, 2020.

Police say that a number of vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lane on Highway 2 while waiting for permission to travel through a marked construction zone.

An eastbound semi-truck failed to stop and drove into the the lineup of vehicles. Fifteen people were injured in the crash.

Randell was charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death, two counts of Criminal Negligence Causing Death, and three counts of Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm.

Police say that Randell was remanded and appeared in court on the charged on Monday July 6, 2020.

A 22-year-old female and a 14-year-old female remain in hospital with serious injuries

The investigation into the crash is ongoing say RCMP.
