Dope smoking suspect busted with a restricted firearm

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old male after spotting him trying to smoke narcotics with a glass pipe.

When officers approach the male around 6:30 pm Thursday night, March 18, 2021, near Vaughn Street they noticed the handgrip to what they thought was a pistol in an open backpack.

A search of the backpack uncovered a loaded Ruger Mini-14, .223 calibre rifle with a high-capacity magazine as well as a five inch knife.

Phung Minh Nguyen was charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace x 2
  • Carry Concealed Weapon x 2
  • Possess Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
