Domestic dispute call leads to police finding grow-op

A domestic incident at a home in the Lakeside Meadows area resulted in police finding a grow-op on Thursday March 18, 2021.

According to police officers had responded to the home in the early evening and determined after speaking to a male and female that the domestic incident was not criminal.

While in the home, which was not owned by the couple, officers spotted a large cannabis grow operation.

The Winnipeg Police Service Clandestine Lab Unit was called in to investigate. Police obtained a search warrant and located about 80 plants inside the residence. A check with Health Canada confirmed that no licenses had ever been issued for the property or the owner of the home.

Police arrested and charged a 35-year-old male in connection to the discovery. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

In total the plants were valued at $98,000. Police also found $3,000 worth of packaged cannabis and various equipment.
