Altona Police Service have charged a 32-year-old St. Malo man in connection to a break-in at a home in the southern Manitoba community.
Police say that on December 30, 2018 they responded to a home in the northwest part of Altona after a residential break and enter. Altona is about 115 kilometres south of Winnipeg.
Police say that during the break-in the suspect(s) ate some of the food in the home and helped themselves to beer. They also made several calls from the home’s landline.
Forensic evidence was gathered at the scene including DNA.
Among the items stolen was a firearm. The weapon was later recovered in stolen vehicle in Winnipeg.
The DNA samples had been sent to the National DNA Data Bank shortly after the break-in. Altona Police received information back from the data bank that there was a match.
Police charged the suspect with Break and Enter.
At the time of his arrest he was in custody on a number of other charges from various police agencies.
