Winnipeg Police Service is investigating after they received reports that a male had been shot at an Elgin Avenue storage facility on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
General patrol officers and members of the Tactical Support Team responded to the call and found a suspect trying to flee the property in a vehicle. Tactical officers were able to place the suspect into custody without incident.
A 28-year-old man was located suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police seized a loaded .22 calibre rifle on the property.
Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and learned that the victim and suspect were business partners in the process of dissolving the partnership. Police say the suspect went to the business, approached the victim and fired a gun in his direction. The gun was fired a second time during a struggle and the bullet hit the victim. A nearby bystander stepped in and helped disarm the suspect and secure the firearm. The suspect then allegedly threatened to kill the victim before going back to his vehicle.
27-year-old Dharm Singh has been charged for his alleged involvement with Attempt to Commit Murder, Pointing a Firearm, Discharge a Firearm with Intent and Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm.
Singh was detained in custody
