In the early morning hours of Sunday December 11, 2016 Winnipeg police and emergency medical crews responded to reports of an unconscious female in the 300 block of Portage Avenue.
A 53 year old woman was located near Portage Place Mall and pronounced dead at the scene.
Overnight the temperatures dipped to -24c with a wind chill of -32c.
Police do not believe foul play was involved in her death.
The cause of her death will be determined in an autopsy.
