Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking into a case involving the death of an armed male on Saturday May 14, 2022.
According to the IIU Winnipeg Police had responded to a domestic dispute. While attempting to de-escalate the situation, the male who was armed with a knife suffered a self inflicted wound. Police deployed a taser in order to subdue the male. The male was taken to hospital but did not survive his injuries.
The IIU assumed responsibility for the investigation as they are mandated to do under the Police Services Act.
