Daylight robbery in Skywalk leads to charges

A 40-year old man is facing charges for robbery and uttering threats to kill or cause bodily harm following an assault in Winnipeg’s Skywalk on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident was reported to foot patrol officers at about 8:30 a.m. on January 26, 2022.

Police say a woman in her fifties walking through the Skywalk near the Hargrave Street entrance was approached by a man asking for money. When she refused, the man pushed her against a wall, assaulted her with some kind of handheld tool and verbally threatened her. Luckily, the weapon did not get through her clothes, and the suspect fled.

Foot patrol members and Skywalk security worked together to identify the suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The next morning, January 27, 2022, at about 9:00 a.m., Skywalk security spotted the suspect in the underground shops area of Main Street.  Police were called, and they arrested 40-year-old Jaime Efrain GARCIA.  He was detained in custody on the assault and threat charges.
