Manitoba will be recoginizing a Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, September 19, 2022.
All non-essential government services and offices will be closed for the day. All schools will be open and classes will be in session said a media release from the province. Health-care and child-care facilities will also be open and operating as usual.
Schools will be asked to observe a moment of silence.
Outside the legislature a 21-gun salute will take place on the south lawn of the Legilative Building followed by a 96 round Royal Gun Salute to honour each year of the Queen’s life.
“I encourage all Manitobans to take a moment to reflect on Her late Majesty’s special relationship with our province and her countless contributions to our country and the entire Commonwealth,” said Stefanson. “Queen Elizabeth II had a remarkable reign and an unwavering commitment to service and duty. May she rest in peace.”
An invite only provincial memorial service will take place at 7: 00 pm that day at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral in Winnipeg. Church bells will toll 96 times before the service begins.
