Mayor appoints to to Police board
Winnipeg Mayor, Brian Bowman announced Wednesday April 19, 2017 that he would like to replace former Winnipeg Police Board chairperson Jeff Browaty with David Asper.
Asper is a lawyer and businessman who is well know in Winnipeg. He has chaired a number of organizations in the city including the Winnipeg Football Club, Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Asper Foundation.
Pending a background check Asper’s appointment would still needs to be approved by council.
The mayor also recommended Brian Scharfstein be the replacement for a board member that stepped down in March. Scharfstein owns Canadian Footware and The FootHealth Centre. He had also served as chair of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce.
Scharfstein’s appointment would also require a background check and council approval.
Both appointments would run until December 31, 2018.
