Dauphin armed robber arrested after 5-hour standoff

RCMP in Dauphin have arrested an 18-year-old male after he was allegedly involved in an armed robbery Monday evening, June 24, 2019.

Police say the suspect walked into a Main Street business in Dauphin around 8:00 pm carrying a sawed-off shotgun and demanded money from staff.

Two employees were hit with the gun, sustaining minor injuries, before the suspect made off with cash and cigarettes.

The suspect then ran to a nearby apartment building and went into one of the suites.

Officers secured the building and evacuated tenants from nearby suites.

The standoff lasted until just after 1:30 am on Tuesday June 25, 2019, when the suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

The suspect will be facing a number of charges related to the incident.

RCMP seized a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition and some of the stolen property.
