Dangerous Quebec driver facing multiple charges

A 34-year-old driver from Quebec is facing multiple charges after driving dangerously along the Trans-Canada Highway east of Portage La Prairie early Monday morning.

According to RCMP the driver was seen driving erratically, struck another vehicle and continued to drive. The vehicle was then seen tailgating semi-trucks, changing speeds, stopping on the highway and backing up, driving without lights and driving into oncoming traffic.

Police say that as they searched for the vehicle they learned that as it was driving into oncoming traffic and it caused another vehicle to enter the ditch to avoid a collision resulting in it rolling. The occupants suffered minor injuries.

Police spotted the vehicle shortly afterwards and activated their emergency lights. The suspect tried to flee, entered a ditch and came to a stop after hitting a culvert. The driver got out of the vehicle and took off on foot.

RCMP brought in a K-9 unit which assisted in the arrest of the suspect.

Police continue to investigate.
