RCMP say that excessive speeds and dangerous driving contributed to a vehicle rollover that sent three people to hospital, two with serious injuries.
Around 10:00 am on Monday, September 14, 2020, police were called to the scene of the rollover on Highway 2 just east of St. Claude. A BMW had rolled over several times ejecting a 21-year-old male passenger who suffered life-threatening injuries. A 24-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries while an adult female suffered minor injuries. The male was airlifted to hospital by STARS. The two female passengers were transported to hospital by ground ambulance.
The 21-year-old driver of the BMW did not suffer any injuries.
RCMP released a video of the BMW passing on the gravel shoulder while a Chevy Malibu passes in the westbound lane of Highway 2
Police say that the BMW and a Chevy Malibu were travelling eastbound on Highway 2 at excessive speeds when they came upon another vehicle also travelling eastbound. Neither vehicle slowed down, instead they passed the vehicle on either side at the same time. The chevy passed in the westbound lane while the BMW passed on the gravel shoulder.
Moments later the BMW lost control and rolled several time before ending up in an adjacent field.
RCMP from Treherne and the RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team are investigating the collision along with the Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.
Sergeant Mark Hume of the Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services said “Speeding along with extremely dangerous driving behaviours are directly leading to serious injuries and deaths across the province. This has to stop.”
