Firefighters had a blaze quickly under control after being called to a two-and-a-half-storey multi-family house in the 100 block of Austin Street North.
When firefighters arrived they found smoke coming from a suite in the building.
Everyone who was inside the structure at the time of the fire was able to get out before firefighters arrived. One person was assessed at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition.
Firefighters rescue two cats from the building.
The fire was contained to the suite where it began and the city’s Emergency Social Services Unit were able to help the residents from that suite find a temporary place to stay. Everyone else who lived in the building was able to return to their suites.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
