A-5-year-old girl has died from injuries she sustained in a two vehicle collision on Dalhousie Drive Wednesday afternoon, June 19, 2019.
The collision occurred around 2:30 pm just east of Pembina Highway. Emergency crews were on the scene immediately as the crash happened very close to a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service station.
Three children were injured in the crash and taken to hospital. A one-year-old and a four-year-old were transported in stable condition and remain in hospital. A five-year-old girl was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died shortly afterwards.
Police say that all three children were in the vehicle that was travelling westbound on Dalhousie at the time of the crash but only two car seats were in the car. Under provincial law children must be restrained in car seats until the age of nine or until weight (80lbs) or height (4’9″) restrictions are met.
Police are not sure if or how the third child was restrained in the vehicle. Charges could be laid against the driver if investigators determine the child was not restrained properly.
Members from the Traffic Division are continuing to investigate and are looking for witnesses to the collision.
