DAKOTA OJIBWAY POLICE OFFICER INVESTIGATED BY IIU

Manitoba’s police watchdog is looking into the conduct of an off-duty Dakota Ojibway Police Service (DOPS) officer.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified on July 5, 2017 by the DOPS about an incident that allegedly occurred several week earlier where a weapon many have been brandished and involved one of their officers who was off-duty at the time.

Under the Police Services Act the IIU can take over an investigation if the civilian director considers it to be in the public interest to do so.

The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, whether occurring on or off duty.
