Cyclist stabs driver during confrontation in back lane

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 40-year-old male after a stabbing in the back lane of St. Mary’s Road at Vivian Avenue.

Police say that around 2:10 pm Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2020, a male was driving in the rear lane when he encountered a cyclist. When the driver got out of his vehicle a confrontation occurred. The cyclist stabbed the driver causing a severe injury to his arm.

Tactical Support Team members responding to the scene used an emergency tourniquet to stabilize the victim. The man was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police arrested the suspect nearby.

40-year-old Carey James Hickaway has been charged for his alleged involvement with Aggravated Assault, Possess Weapon and two counts of Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.

He was detained in custody.
