RCMP have charged a 53-year-old Crown attorney with public mischief
Police charged Elizabeth Pats (AKA Elizabeth Laite) on September 5, 2017, after she had reported an alleged incident where she said she had been attacked on a highway just outside Norway House in April 2016.
At the time police said that Pats had stopped to help a woman and child when a man attacked from behind.
After an investigation by RCMP in Thompson and Norway House the charges were laid
Police are not saying specifically why the charges were laid but according to the criminal code a charge of mischief is laid in the following circumstances:
Every one commits public mischief who, with intent to mislead, causes a peace officer to enter on or continue an investigation by
(a) making a false statement that accuses some other person of having committed an offence;
(b) doing anything intended to cause some other person to be suspected of having committed an offence that the other person has not committed, or to divert suspicion from himself;
(c) reporting that an offence has been committed when it has not been committed; or
(d) reporting or in any other way making it known or causing it to be made known that he or some other person has died when he or that other person has not died.
Pats will face a judge in Provincial Court in Norway House on October 19, 2017.
