Winnipeg Police have arrested a man and a woman and are looking for another male in connection to a crime spree that happened during June and July of 2018.
Police say that on July 8, 2018, a 62-year-old female was seriously assaulted in her backyard after going outside to see why her dog was barking. One of the male suspects pointed a firearm at the woman while the other man pushed past her as he tried to get into the house. The victim tried to run away at which point she was seriously assaulted.
As the second male suspect entered the home he assaulted a 63-year-old male. The female victim then entered the residence and was assaulted by the second male suspect.
Police say that as the assaults were taking place the female suspect was present.
At this point, the first male suspect who was armed with the firearm came into the home and assaulted the male victim. The trio of home invaders then left, stealing the victim’s vehicle in the process.
Shortly afterwards the suspects narrowly missed colliding with a firetruck that was responding to a call with lights and sirens on in the intersection of Kenaston Boulevard and Sterling Lyon Parkway.
Minutes later the stolen vehicle was involved in a collision with a pedestrian at Cambridge Street and Academy Road. The pedestrian was seriously injured.
As the suspects fled they hit a number of fences in the area.
The suspects were spotted by police at Simcoe Street and Wellington Avenue. An attempt to stop them was made but they took off and eventually lost control of the vehicle at Sargent Avenue and Beverly Street. All three suspects took off on foot but police were able to capture a male and a female in the area.
Officers searched the stolen vehicle and found a sawed-off rifle along with a magazine.
Police were also able to connect the arrested male to a number of thefts at Manitoba Liquor and Lottery locations during the month of June and the first week of July 2018.
He was also allegedly responsible for the theft of a Toyota Corolla on June 11, 2018, and theft of gas for the stolen vehicle on June 17, 2018. CP Rail Police found the vehicle on June 22, 2018, in a rail yard. On June 25, 2018, he allegedly also stole a Dodge Ram truck.
