Crime Spree in Winnipeg Leads to Arrest

A series of violent incidents over the past two days has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man in Winnipeg.

On August 3, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a male suspect entered a commercial business in the 1000 block of Nairn Avenue. He threatened a cashier with a lighter, demanding money, but fled the scene empty-handed.

Shortly after, at around 12:45 p.m., the same suspect confronted an elderly woman sitting in her vehicle nearby. He forcibly removed her from the vehicle, threw her to the ground, and threatened to stab her before fleeing in her car. The elderly victim sustained serious injuries.

The following day, on August 4, 2024, at approximately 5:45 a.m., the suspect attempted to rob another female victim at a commercial business in the 1600 block of Regent Avenue West. The victim resisted, and the suspect fled after stealing her purse. She sustained minor injuries.

Later that morning, at around 7:30 a.m., the suspect lured another female victim outside a commercial business in the same area, under the pretense that something was wrong with her parked vehicle. He then assaulted her, punching her multiple times and threatening to kill her before stealing her vehicle.

The Tactical Support Team located the stolen vehicle unoccupied in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. With the assistance of East District and North District General Patrol officers, the suspect was apprehended in the area.

The Major Crimes Unit has charged Scott Matthew MACCAULL (40) of Winnipeg with multiple offenses, including four counts of robbery, aggravated assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He remains in custody.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about these incidents to come forward.
