Winnipeg Police ended a months long crime spree with the arrest of a male suspect early Thursday morning, February 11, 2021.
Police say that 33-year-old Dustin Dean Zorn from Winnipeg was involved in a number of crimes including break and enters, thefts of and damage to a number of vehicles. He also was involved in the fraudulent use of identity document and credit cards.
Investigators from the Property Crime Unit say that the crime spree began on November 11, 2020 when a wallet was stolen from a parked vehicle on Wardlaw Avenue. The suspect used the ID to obtain credit cards in the victim’s name. When the credit cards arrived later in November the suspect charged approximately $5,000 to the two credit cards.
On January 15, 2021 the suspect broke into three commercial businesses on Princess Street. Police say he broke into close to 50 mailboxes, a storage locker and ten vehicles, stealing various items.
On January 27 the suspect stole keys from a vehicle rental business on Inkster Boulevard only to return after hours to steal a vehicle valued at more than $5,000.
On January 28 the suspect broke into a Flora Avenue residence and stole a number of items.
On February 11, 2021 the suspect stole a vehicle around 1:20 am that had been left running on Weston Street. Police spotted the stolen vehicle around Sherman Street and Logan Avenue. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot to avoid the officers but he was quickly apprehended nearby.
Police say that the suspect was responsible for more than $40,000 worth of damage and stolen property.
Zorn was charged with 26 property and fraud-related offences for his alleged involvement. He was detained in custody.
