Winnipeg firefighters discovered a fire in a three-storey apartment building on Furby Street after being called to the area for the report of an outside fire.
An offensive attack was launched just before 4:00 am while other firefighters searched the building to ensure everyone had evacuated.
Two people were taken to hospital one in stable condition the other in unstable condition.
The fire was declared under control at 4:54 am
Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was sent to the scene of the fire to help 18 residents find alternative accommodations until the affected suites are safe to return to. Other residents were able to return to their suites once firefighters had completed their work.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
